KENP Pages Read Calculator
Turn Kindle Unlimited pages read into an earnings estimate, and see how much of your book a KU reader must finish to earn as much as a sale.
How KENP earnings work
earnings = KENP pages read × monthly rate per pageAmazon puts a fixed sum into the KDP Select Global Fund each month and divides it by the total pages read across all enrolled books. That gives the per-page rate. You are paid for every page a Kindle Unlimited or Prime Reading customer reads for the first time.
Worked example
At $0.0045 per page, 25,000 pages read earns $112.50. A 300-page (KENPC) book read to the end earns $1.35. If you earn $3.28 per $4.99 sale, a KU reader needs to read 729 pages to match it, so for a 300-page book, a full KU read pays less than a sale. For a 900-page box set the picture flips: one full read pays $4.05.
Is Kindle Unlimited worth it?
KU pays best for long books and series that readers binge, especially in romance, fantasy, thrillers and other genres where KU readers are heavy readers. Short non-fiction and reference books tend to do better with straight sales on every platform, because readers skim and page counts stay low. A simple test is to compare your monthly pages-read earnings against the sales you would expect from other stores like Apple Books, Kobo and Google Play, which you give up while enrolled. The ebook royalty calculator gives your per-sale figure.
Frequently asked questions
What is the current KENP rate?
KDP announces the per-page rate each month from the KDP Select Global Fund, usually in the middle of the following month. It has mostly been around $0.004 to $0.005 per page in recent years. Enter the latest rate from your KDP dashboard for the most accurate result.
What is a KENP page?
Kindle Edition Normalized Pages. KDP counts pages using a standard font size and layout, so the same book has the same KENPC (page count) on every device. You can see your book's KENPC on the KDP Bookshelf under "Promote and Advertise".
Is a page counted if the reader skims?
Pages count the first time a Kindle Unlimited or Prime Reading customer reads them. Re-reading the same pages doesn't count again.
Do I need KDP Select?
Yes. Only books enrolled in KDP Select, which requires ebook exclusivity on Amazon for 90-day terms, earn page reads.
